More Book Info and The Ideal Anti-Zombie Gun

Hi folks! How's things? Been awhile since I posted anything but I've been busy. Anyways, I'll try to put something up here more than once a month. Really. Anyways, here's what's going on. Got sidetracked working on the sequel for a bit but it's coming soon. Just went through it again and I have to say that I'm pleased with how it's coming along. I don't think it will be that long until it's finished and it's out there for you guys to read. Oh! And I finally got written confirmation from the copyright office that Outbreak: Boston is officially mine and has been since I submitted the paperwork almost a year ago. Yay!
Now this next bit is the subject of some debate amongst those of us who spend time thinking about such things. What would your ideal Anti-Zombie gun be? Well...I'll try and see what I can come up with. One gun can't do it all but I'll try and cover all the bases so to speak.
First thing's first. I'm more familiar with the AR-15/M-16/M-4 family of rifles first developed by Eugene Stoner back in the late 1950's and I like the fire controls (the selector switch and such are pretty well positioned in my opinion). I also like the collapsible buttstock of the M-4 because it makes it easier to take a good stance when firing standing up and shortens the overall length of the weapon a little. So I'd borrow the lower receiver from that particular weapon system.
As far as the upper receiver: I think I'd have to go with a piston driven gas system similar to that in the Kalashnikov family of rifles. The looser tolerances of the AK are part of the reason for it's reliability even if it does (according to some) affect overall accuracy. However, given all the stories I've heard I'd make the AK's action my choice for how my Zombie Gun works. Though the AK's iron sights are a no go as far as I'm concerned. put the M-4/M-16's sights on the upper receiver and we're in business.
I think I'd have to go with either the 5.56 NATO or 6.8 SPC for the caliber of my new rifle. I don't think I'd want the excess weight of a heavier caliber, say a 7.62 NATO (.308 Winchester) or a 30.06 Springfield. And well...to be honest...I don't have much in the way of experience shooting long distances so attempts at 1,000 yard head shots would just result in a lot of wasted ammunition. Plus I don't think I'd feel comfortable taking a shot at what might be a fellow healthy human being at a distance where I can't quite make out if they're infected or not. So why deal with the extra weight that reduces the amount of ammunition I can carry?
And I'd also want Picatinny rails on top of the upper receiver and handguard. It's real handy for mounting a light and optics. Speaking of optics, I think I'd prefer something like the Aimpoint Micro or CompM4 if money was no object (why oh why didn't I buy a ticket or two for that Powerball drawing tonight? Damn!). They can run for literally years off of one battery (don't ask me how. My bet is on some form of sorcery) and are seriously reliable. Like holy crap on a stick it got blown the shit up and it still works kind of reliable.
Okay and other features I'd add, as long as I'm on the subject.... I think that in the event of a zombie apocalypse the swing out bayonet of the SKS would be a handy feature to have. Sure bayonets may be somewhat out of fashion nowadays but I'd think that 13 inches of sharpened steel on the end of your rifle would make a handy zombie skewering device.
So anyways, I guess that's all I've got right now. Please feel free to follow the link at the top of the post and buy a copy of my eBook, Outbreak: Boston, if you're so inclined. It's only a $1.50 USD and I think you'll really enjoy it. If you do please leave a review on the book's Amazon page. Also Outbreak: Boston has it's own Facebook page and I generally do more stuff there than here so go ahead and check that out too. Or you can email me at outbreakboston@gmail.com as well.
EDIT: Okay...this is officially about the coolest goddamn thing I've ever seen. Guys, seriously...check this shit out! It's a rifle that not only practically shoots itself (the computer in the scope compensate for distance, wind direction, trigger pull, etc) but IT WILL LET YOU UPLOAD VIDEO TO THE WEB! Why can I see a Zombieland style 'Zombie Kill of the Week' YouTube channel or something like that in the near future? Too bad it costs somewhere around $20,000 USD to get one. And there's a waiting list apparently. And the various models weigh around 20 pounds with the scope, bipod and loaded up. Another thing for my wishlist, I guess...
